With millions of visitors walking in the Lakeland fells each year, and with the typically wet and wild weather the Lakes enjoy, footpath erosion around the Lake District is a real problem.
Nobody knows the effects of erosion better than Fix the Fells – a partnership between the Lake District National Park, the National Trust, and Nurture Lakeland. For over 10 years, Fix the Fells have been repairing and maintaining the ancient network of paths found all over the Lake District. With 200 sections of repaired paths under their belt, Fix the Fells team of experts and volunteers are hoping to repair another 120 paths in the next 10 years – whilst still maintaining the walkways they’ve already worked upon. With around £350,000 per year needed to keep this important work going, Fix the Fells need all the help they can get.
That’s where Granger’s and George Fisher come in. George Fisher Outdoor Shop in Keswick has joined forces with Granger’s – market-leaders in the development of waterproofing and cleaning products – to help raise the much-needed funds for the Fix the Fells repair programme. From July until October 2015, George Fisher and Granger’s will be donating 50p from every Granger’s product purchased from George Fisher – both online and in-store. This money will go directly to Fix the Fells to enable them to continue preserving the fells for future generations.
“We want to help visitors prolong the life of their equipment by using aftercare products like Granger's, rather than just throwing them away. With this sponsorship we’re also enabling visitors to care for the Lake District as well as for their clothing and footwear.” – Andy Airey, Director, George Fisher.
