By the time the 19th November rolls around, the Lake District town of Kendall will be host to thousands of outdoor enthusiasts, industry experts, athletes, manufacturers, explorers, adventurers, artists, and inspirational speakers. An unusually chilly season to visit the Lakes, the throngs of visitors will be arriving from far and wide for a single reason – the Kendal Mountain Festival.
The Kendal Mountain Festival gives its guests the chance to share stories of their outdoor adventures, invites them to celebrate the outdoor- and adventure-sports culture, and encourages them to take part in a series of traditional festival events. The jewel in the festival’s crown, however, is undoubtedly the International Film Competition. With over 70 films being screened (from over 200 entries), and eleven gongs up for grabs, the event is known amongst attendees as the ‘Oscars of outdoor filmmaking’.
If that doesn’t sound impressive, there are plenty of other highlights to enjoy at the festival. With art exhibitions, book events (including the awarding of the Boardman Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature), workshops, and competitions to enter, there’s truly something for everybody.
The 2015 Kendal Mountain Festival will be held on the 19th – 22nd November. You can find out more information about the event, including a full programme, here: http://www.mountainfest.co.uk/
